The Alliance emphasizes learning through real-world cases to enhance members’ risk awareness. Examples include:
  • HKMA Enforcement Case: In July 2025, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) completed investigations into three banks for breaches of the Anti-Money Laundering Ordinance. One bank was required to review transactions and implement remedial measures, while fines of HKD 8.5 million, 4 million, and 3.7 million were imposed on the three banks respectively (hkma.gov.hk). The investigation found that these banks failed to effectively monitor customer relationships and had deficiencies in their transaction monitoring mechanisms (hkma.gov.hk). The HKMA highlighted that establishing robust transaction monitoring systems and promptly correcting deficiencies are crucial elements of effective AML controls (hkma.gov.hk).
  • Legislative Council Engagement: The Alliance organized blockchain technology experts to participate in Legislative Council discussions, marking the first direct involvement of industry experts in legislative deliberations. This showcased the potential of technology-regulation collaboration and provided the industry with a window for institutional engagement.
Through case studies, the Alliance helps members understand regulatory responses to violations and gain insights into industry best practices.
